SPLIT HEART

Synopsis

Abril and Max have nothing in common: she is very Latina, he is very "gringo". While Abril's family comes first, Max's priority is being successful in business. She loves living in her hometown and working in the fields. He, while being part Mexican, has completely overlooked his roots and is happy living in a first world country. It would be difficult for these two people to fall in love, but for a variety of reasons and against their will, they both move to Mexico City and their lives begin to change radically, until they come together amidst the loneliness and disappointment in which their respective partners have left them. Debra, Max's wife, divorces because she can't get used to the country from which her parents moved years ago. On the other hand, Bruno, Abril's husband, abandons her because his dream is to live in the United States making dollars to get ahead.

Max arrives in Mexico to be the CEO of a clothing company and Abril is offered the opportunity to be his personal assistant, under one condition: to be single and childless in order to be available at any time. Given her financial situation, Abril makes the mistake of hiding that she has a child. However, her good will, her charisma and her joy are well received and awaken in Max his unknown side, the one he never saw or cared to discover: his Latin side.

Bruno becomes Minerva's right hand, a beautiful but very dangerous woman, head of an immigrant smuggling ring, a business that provides her with lots of money and that has allowed Bruno to wrongfully achieve what he dreamed of: having it all. Therefore, Bruno persuades Abril to travel with her son and start a new life in San Antonio, Texas. In order to save money, they travel on separate flights. The child reaches his father's arms, while Abril is deported because of Minerva, who arranged for the authorities to discover that Abril was planning to stay illegally as she would not let her plans to conquer Bruno be ruined.

Hopeless of returning to the United States, Abril asks Bruno to return to Mexico with Hugo, her son, but he is no longer willing to have the humble and simple life he had before. Abril, distraught by the pain of being separated from her son, promises herself to do everything she can to get him back. When Max admits that he loves her and proposes to her, Abril agrees and decides to give herself a new chance in love, since she has also slowly and sincerely fallen in love with him. Her mother suggests her to get married and get her son back, because by doing this with an American, she could enter the United States and rescue her son, who lives in sadness due to Minerva's abuses, Bruno's mistress.

To everyone's surprise, when Max discovers that his new wife has a son, he forgives Abril for keeping it a secret from him, because he understands and appreciates the sacrifices that a mother has made to get her son back. Max is determined to help her reunite with Hugo so that the three of them can be a real family.
